Konrad News - Bahrain And 2007
Markus Berns at www.project-lemans.de has been in contact with Franz Konrad and reports that the Konrad-Lechner Motorsport entry for this coming weekend’s Bahrain 24 Hours will be driven by Wolfgang Kaufmann / Antonio Hermann / Michael Shrey – with Franz himself 90% certain to be the fourth driver. The car is a 2006 Porsche GT3-RSR.

Heading into next season, Konrad is aiming to race at Sebring with a brand new Porsche 997 GT3-RSR. A decision will be made as to whether the team races in the ALMS or the Le Mans Series next year. Konrad’s targets are twofold: a second 997 Porsche and a Le Mans entry. His team has been a noticeable absentee at Le Mans in recent seasons.

We haven’t seen the last of the Konrad Saleens though, even as Franz heads back to his Porsche roots. Two Konrad S7Rs raced in the 2006 Mil Milhas (photo below) and “there is a high possibility that one or two Saleens will run at the Mil Milhas and maybe later in the season at the Spa 24 Hours”.

The Mil Milhas was going to become a round of the 2007 FIA GT Championship, but it now seems as though it should revert to its original format.

Markus Berns reports that Porsche has so far sold 25 (of 35) 997 RSRs – so with cars available, some teams can decide late whether they buy a second car.
