Sports Car Challenge Gets Underway Soon
The 2006 season of the Sports Car Challenge commences on May 13/14 at Varano in Italy, and another manufacturer will make its debut in the series. Czech team Pfeifer Motorsport and driver Michal Pavlik have entered a Picchio LMP2, powered by a 3.4l Alfa Romeo V6 engine from tuner Ellegi. The factory-supported car was on display at the first race weekend in the Czech Republic last month, at Brno. The 440bhp engine will be swapped for a smaller 3 liter unit for a couple of races in the Italian Championship later in the season. An excursion to Vallelunga for the Gold Cup is also on the agenda.

Team and driver have prototype experience; Pavlik drove a PRC-Alfa in the Czech endurance series when it was still open for prototypes, and later had a few outings in a PRC-BMW in the Sports Car Challenge.

The Pfeifer Motorsport car may not be the only Picchio at the Varano races; the factory may also enter a CN “Light” for a young driver.
