Italian GTs – Imola, March 25-26
The Italian season got underway last weekend, with two one hour races at Imola – and resulted in wins for the Playteam SRL Maserati on its debut (Giannoccaro and Vilander) and the Loris Kessel Ferrari 575 of Kessel and Andrea Chiesa.

Ferrari F430 GTCs were third, fourth and fifth in the first race – led home by Zardo and Caffi, then Cadei and Maceratesi and Pasini and Matteo Bobbi.

Luca Cappellari and Miguel Ramos were tenth in the Racing Box Maserati MC12.

Race 2 saw the GT2 Ferraris third, fourth and fifth, in exactly the same order, as the MC12s came home eighth (Playteam) and unclassified.

Perhaps the story of the weekend was the slump in grid numbers, after such a successful season in 2005. Without an MC12 or a Ferrari F430 GTC, entrants don’t look competitive. The new 430s are so quick, they’re almost on the heels of the Maseratis, as these times from the second session at Imola confirm.

And with a couple of other cars, that was the grid. "Half the size of last year's grid, multi-million euro cars and budgets..."
