Kaufmann – On Dubai & 2006
“I’ve just arrived back from 24 Hours at Dubai,” comments Wolfgang Kaufmann.

He was racing the #26 Lammertink Porsche 911 GT3, with Luca Moro, and they had some adventures on the way to an eleventh place finish, fifth in class.

“Unfortunately we had lots of troubles with our Cup Porsche… we had to change the driveshafts several times, some suspension parts in the rear broke, twice the team could not take off the wheel nut from the rear left wheel - and lots of other little problems, so we spent a long time in the pits.”

dailysportscar.com“Luca Moro and I drove the maximum in this very hot 24 hour race… I drove for around 11 hours, Luca about nine hours… the rest of the distance was driven by our third, Dutch driver, Ardi van der Hoek – but unfortunately he found it very hot in the car.

“I was in the only car that got ahead of the winning Duller BMW in the first stint (below) – but we were trying to be as gentle as possible with the car. We knew we had a good chance to win, but as you know, to win means you have to finish without spending lots of time in the pits…”

The #26 Porsche still covered 471 laps, compared to the winning Duller car's 519.

Regarding his 2006 plans, Kaufmann is expecting to race in the whole of the FIA GT Championship “and I hope the whole of the Le Mans Series, with the A:Level Porsche turbo.”
