Spanish Automobile Federation Awards Night In Madrid
Last Friday evening (December 17) saw the Spanish Champions from every series in Spain being presented with their trophies. The evening ended with a pair of special awards, one from the Spanish Automobile Federation and another from the FIA, to Carlos Sainz. Unfortunately, flight delays prevented the former World Rally Champion from attending the ceremony himself.

Balfe Motorsport’s Shaun Balfe was also unable to attend (owing to illness), but he sent his thanks with a couple of members of the team, who gratefully accepted the hospitality of the Spanish organisers! Balfe’s racing partner Nigel Taylor was present, and he duly accepted both trophies, for winning the Spanish GT Championship.

Former British GT racer Matt Johnson was also at the ceremony, to collect his award for taking the runner-up spot in the Spanish Seat Cupra Championship. Much amusement was taken form the fact that it announced that he was 'Sub-Champion', which the British members of the audience took to mean that his driving must have been sub-standard to not have clinched the title at the last round!
