Kaufmann & Haupt For Wieth At Bahrain
We’ll be building up towards our coverage of next week’s Bahrain GT Festival (November 24-26, Wednesday to Friday, the dsc team leaves on Monday) – but some early news concerns the interesting Wieth Ferrari, which will have Wolfgang Kaufmann and Hubert Haupt at the wheel.

dailysportscar.comHaving sampled the FFSA GT series recently, the team has since been very busy. A two day test at Oschersleben last week saw the car set “some very promising lap times,” says team manager Florian Hebel, Kaufmann at the wheel.

“Wolfgang was very pleased with the performance of the 550.”

An engine problem cut the test a little short, but it was despatched to Oral Engineering, who fixed the problem, and returned it within a day – so that the car could be air-freighted to Bahrain.

“The decision to attend the GT Festival in Bahrain was made very late,” says Florian Hebel, “but with the help of our new sponsor, Rhino´s Energy Drink, and the great services of Exel airfreight, we coped.”

With Wolfgang (türgriffen) Kaufmann and ex-DTM driver (and many other cars) Hubert Haupt at the wheel, prospects for the event in the Middle East look very good for the yellow 550.

The team’s second car will be at the Essen Motor Show (November 25 – December 5, Hall 5, Stand 26).

dailysportscar.com“What do you mean, ‘Türgriffen’….” asks Wolfgang Kaufmann?

“My regular nickname is much better, ‘Piranha’.”

So that new nickname didn’t go down very well then!

We were implying that Wolfgang is likely to corner a car ‘on its doorhandles’, because türgriffen is the German for doorhandles. Having experienced a lap of the Nordschleife with Wolfgang, we liked the new name, but we’re happy to go back to the old one.

“The test and especially the lap times - comparing them to the FIA GT round, which I did at Oschersleben, in the GNM Saleen – were really good!” adds Piranha.
