FFSA GT – Albi – Qualifying Reports
Race 1

For the first time in his career, Gael Lesoudier, who has now a new partner, Jean-Philippe Belloc, will start from the pole – in race 1 at Albi. In the French Cup, the Charriol / Loger Lamborghini seems out of reach and the Porsches will have a lot to do to catch it.

The start of the first qualifying session was exclusively a Mirabeau affair. Bleynie, Hernandez, Herbert and Moureu were quickest in the early stages. Soon, Gaël Lesoudier, motivated by Belloc’s arrival alongside him, took the provisional pole.

The last five minutes of this session were very exciting. Gael Lesoudier went quicker again, and in the last few seconds, David Hallyday (Force One Viper) and François Fiat (DDO Saleen) shone and were second and third quickest, while Patrick Bornhauser (VBM Viper) who had started quietly, moved up with the fourth quickest lap time, but Gael Lesoudier was happy to claim his first pole position

In the N-GT Trophy, Patricia Bertapelle (Lamborghini) was ahead of Thierry Rabineau (Porsche), while Signoret (Toyota) had a broken rear wing.

Gaël Lesoudier: “I am very happy with this first FFSA GT pole. It is very rewarding to race with a skilful driver like Jean-Philippe Belloc. After only a few laps, he had improved the car, but we can still progress. I’ll have my first start ever from the pole, I don’t know really how it will be. The race won’t be easy, we aim to finish in the top five.”

Race 2
In a thrilling session, Dominique Dupuy claimed his first pole position with the ever improving Saleen. The high level of this qualifying session should produce a very lively race. In the French Cup, David Loger confirmed the superiority of the Lamborghini on this track.

The top-seeded drivers went for the times in this fifteen minute session. Bruno Besson set a quick lap time to take the provisional pole. Beltoise (Lease Plan Autovitesse Viper), Zangarelli (Mirabeau Viper), Belloc (Red Racing Viper), Dumez (Larbre Viper), David (VBM Viper) and Cayrolle (Mirabeau Viper) were exchanging positions, but no one could challenge Besson’s initial domination. Meanwhile, Goossen’s Corvette and Dupuy’s Saleen stood in the pits.

With his first attempt, Goossens was second quickest, but a slight contact with Eric Cayrolle’s Viper forced him to stop. Bruno Besson believed he was about to claim his first FFFSA GT pole, but he did not take into account Dominique Dupuy’s tenacity. On his last lap, at the wheel of a Saleen which was well suited to the circuit, the double FFSA GT champion took his first pole with the Saleen.

In the N-GT Trophy, Morgan Moulin-Traffort was out of reach and chose to save his car by pitting early in

Dominique Dupuy: “We are very pleased. We have worked at Le Castellet in July and we have improved some mechanical parts. The car is running well. Since the beginning, we know that the competitiveness is there. This track is well suited to the car and the next two circuits will be even more so. For the race, we have to choose between two strategies: either we have a quick start to put the pressure on our contenders, or we wait and see, for my part, I prefer the second one.”
