Zytek’s 4 Litre ZG408
We managed to discover that the factory Zytek team was testing at (a very secure) Snetterton on Wednesday of this week, and Trevor Foster and Tom Oliver were happy to bring us up to date with an outline of engine developments at Zytek.

“Tom Chilton was driving,” says Trevor Foster, “the same chassis we raced on Saturday. This engine is a 4 litre version of the current V8, and Tom covered 400 kilometres on Wednesday. The test went exceptionally well. This is really just the stage 1 development of this engine.”

Zytek’s Development Manager (Engines), Tom Oliver, emphasised that “the test went extraordinarily well.” Privately, Tom Oliver was a very happy man.

We understand that Tom Chilton was very excited at the power delivery of this engine.

Regarding the race programme for the balance of the 2005 season for the Zytek 04S chassis, Trevor Foster explained that “we’re still working on the full backing to do Petit Le Mans and Laguna Seca. The main target this year is to win the LMES, to gain a guaranteed entry to Le Mans next year.”

It’s impossible to imagine this team (winners at Spa of course) not gaining an entry to the 24 Hours in 2006 – which leads to some interesting thoughts regarding chassis developments …

Following that stunning performance at Mid-Ohio earlier this year, all at Zytek must be desperate to show off their current package again in the ALMS. And for next year, they’ll have a race-ready, 4 litre engine to complement the existing chassis.
