Goossens – Convers Aston Martin This Weekend
”It’s to do with something we’re working on for
the future, involving both of them,” explains Rob Schirle
– of the news that Marc Goossens will join Darren Turner,
with Nikolaj Fomenko, in the Convers Team Aston Martin DBR9, at
the Silverstone 1000 Kms.
“Marc
did a great job at Spa (in the Aston Martin), and we’ve got
something going on for the future.”
Both of the newcomers to the ‘blue team’
have had a seat fitting – Darren Turner having shaken this
car down before it left the hands of Prodrive, just after the Monza
race last month.
“We’ve
spent a week working flat out on the car, and repairing the Ferrari
550 after Spa – but we’re ready for Silverstone, with
two GT1 cars for the first time.”
Rob Schirle will be at Silverstone tomorrow, Wednesday,
for the media day for the Britcar Silverstone 24 Hours (where he’s
running an ex-Red Bull Porsche for Tim Harvey, Peter Lloyd and Adam
Jones) – then back again on Thursday, for scrutineering for
the 1000 Kms.
Unsurprisingly, he’s also working on something
else….
“In line with Stephane Ratel’s idea
that teams run three GT3 cars in the FIA next year, we’re
looking at running three of the new Aston Martin DBRS9s. We’re
well under way with plans so far.”
We’ll have to wait and see if there are enough
drivers and budgets to fund GT2 and GT3 next year.
This image neatly
sums up Rob Schirle’s plans for what sounds like a very eventful
2006.
