Four FIA GT Invitations For Le Mans
At this stage (Friday evening) of what has been an amazingly busy week at dailysportscar, we’ll simply post this press release from the ACO – and pose the question.. “What is Vitaphone supposed to enter at Le Mans next year?”
NB. FIA GT winners have been granted invitations in the past, although not in 2006. JMB, Freisinger and BMS Scuderia Italia definitely had invitations for the 2004 race, thanks to FIA GT success in 2003.

The entrants of the first two cars in the 2006 FIA GT Championship GT1 and GT2 categories have been awarded an invitation for the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.

The attribution (allocation) of these four invitations in addition to the first 24 cars was decided following an agreement between Mr. Jean-Claude Plassart, the President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the A.S.A. A.C.O. of the “24 Heures du Mans”, and Mr. Stéphane Ratel, the director of the S.R.O Motorsports Group, the organiser of the FIA GT Championship.

In accordance with the final overall classification of the 2006 FIA GT Championship, the entrants in the first two places in the FIA GT1 and GT2 categories have been awarded invitations provided that the car in question complies with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest regulations.

The entrants who have been awarded these invitations are:

2006 FIA GT1
1st : VITAPHONE RACING TEAM
2nd: ASTON MARTIN RACING BMS

2006 FIA GT2
1st : AF CORSE
2nd: SCUDERIA ECOSSE

The decision to award an additional 4 invitations brings the number of cars automatically selected to 28 for 20 entrants (as compared to 24 for 16 beforehand).

Reminder: the automatically selected entrants have until 8th January 2007 included to confirm their participation.

Stephane Ratel: "As Administrator of the Le Mans Series, and Promoter of the FIA GT Championship, I feel it is essential that these two series should be able to grow in harmony, while each retaining its specific characteristics. I would like to thank the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and its President for the section of the four teams who, thanks to their brilliant results in a particularly high-level 2006 FIA GT Championship, definitely deserve a place on the starting grid of the world's most important Endurance race."
