Gearing Up For The Future - The B10/10
As announced last Friday, at the ACO press conference, the LMP1
class will be for closed cars only from 2010 – and Lola isn’t
allowing the grass to grow in the meantime.
The Huntingdon-based manufacturer has released this image (below)
of its proposed coupe LMP1 car, the B10/10.
“We have been evaluating the
coupe version of our prototype for some time now and are confident
that it will be a very interesting project for existing customers
and potential customers,” says Lola’s Sam Smith.
“We are spending more wind tunnel
time in the near future and pushing ahead with developments, as
we have already had a few enquiries relating to a closed top version
of the existing LMP1.”
The B10/10 is certainly a fabulous
looking machine, and the chassis would form the ideal foundation
for the ACO’s simpler, 2010 cars.
“It is obvious that the ACO is
aiming to attract more manufacturers to Le Mans in the future and
we will be ready to offer a package that has been exhaustively tested
and developed,” suggests Sam Smith.
The 2010 cars are destined to have
more of a ‘road car look’ to them than the B10/10 –
with simpler lines, a larger screen, less visible ducting and a
smaller rear wing.
