At Le Mans (One Of Each)
During the eventful Spa Le Mans Series event, Rob Schirle was able
to confirm that his team will be entering one Aston Martin DBR9
and one Ferrari 550 at Le Mans, as per the original entry invitations.
That scenario was actually quite complicated, Convers Team MenX
having 'acquired' the Russian Age Ferrari entry (based on successes
last year, as Cirtek / Russian Age) - but Cirtek itself was granted
one GT1 entry for a Ferrari and one for an Aston Martin, and that's
how the team's cars will line up next month.
"After discussions with the ACO, we've accepted that it would
be too controversial to expect to be able to run two Aston Martins,"
explains Rob Schirle.
"We showed what the team can do, at Spa, and although the Aston
Martin is the newer car, the Ferrari is still a very capable package
at Le Mans, where the 550 is very fast on the straights. Both cars
will run on Michelin tyres.
"We're obviously talking to a good number of drivers, and we've
got three top-line men lined up already, but as things stand, we
have one seat in the Aston Martin and two in the Ferrari. We're
going all out to win in one of the cars, but both will be prepared
to an identical level, and Cirtek has finished at the Le Mans the
last three times we've run there.
"I would welcome contact from interested drivers. The package
includes a high standard of hospitality."
