Oreca & Saleen For Le Mans
It was announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show yesterday, January
4, that Steve Saleen’s Saleen Inc., in conjunction with Hugues
de Chaunac’s Oreca Groupe, have formed a partnership for an
all out, two-car effort at Le Mans this year.
also sell, service and support all European race cars, and provide
technical services. Oreca will also be the repair centre for Europe.
is right time for Saleen to have a full European program,”
commented Steve Saleen. “Globally, the S7 has grown in market
presence and recognition, and with our new race program we will
further showcase the racecraft and winning attributes of the S7R.
Since the introduction of the S7 in 2001, all prior teams have had
to be serviced from the U.S. Now, with the addition of Oreca to
the program we can provide better service to our customers abroad."
over a quarter of a century Oreca has been helping major car manufacturers
win,” added de Chaunac. “We anticipate that Saleen the
S7R will be one of our most ambitious and successful programs."
details of the race program will be announced in due course.
It is expected
that a third Saleen (not an Oreca entry), another potential class
winner, will be on the grid at Le Mans in June.
2005 racing effort was based around the Audi R8, the highlight being
the last victory for the Audi in Europe, at Silverstone in August.
Oreca took Mazda to overall Le Mans honours in 1991. The Saleen
S7R's most significant racing success is still its victory at Sebring
in 2001, in the hands of Konrad Motorsport.
