Cochet’s SAMAX Drive
(For Most Of The Season)
dailysportscar.comFrenchman Jonathan Cochet (right) will be Brian Tuttle’s regular co-driver in the Tuttle Team Racing / SAMAX Motorsport Riley BMW this year, in the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve. Cochet will drive in a total of ten races for the team, beginning at Mexico City on March 4.

“Throughout last year and during the off-season, we put several different drivers in our car to explore the possibilities for 2006,” said SAMAX owner Peter Baron. “After the job he did with us last year, we just couldn’t find a reason not to hire him. He definitely earned it based on his performance in the car, but there was also good chemistry with the team.”

Cochet made his SAMAX / DP debut at Barber Motorsports Park last July, and was among the fastest four drivers throughout practice. He climbed from ninth to second place in the race only to be penalized for contact while executing a pass. When he emerged from the pits after serving a penalty, he chased down and passed Max Angelleli, to get back on the lead lap.

“There aren’t many drivers in this series who have actually passed Max during a race,” said Peter Baron. “That really made an impression on us and definitely figured into our decision.”

“I have very good memories from the two races (Barber and Mid-Ohio - below) I did with SAMAX and Brian last year and I’m very excited to team with them again in 2006,” says Cochet. “I really like the team, the series and the cars. There should be no reason we can’t have more good results together again this year.”

Two of the Rolex Series clash with Le Mans Series races - Long Beach in April (Istanbul) and Infineon raceway in August (Donington Park). Cochet's European plans haven't been announced yet.
