Derbyshire & Balfe Part Company
Jamie Derbyshire has decided to leave Balfe Motorsport, with immediate effect. He made the decision before the Oschersleben FIA GT meeting, but offered to race in Germany so as not to let the team down at short notice.

The Balfe Saleen made significant strides forward at Oschersleben and Jamie Derbyshire and his sponsors are confident it will continue to make good progress.

“Both Shaun and David Balfe were very enthusiastic for Jamie to remain with the team and we had a number of entirely positive conversations with them, but after a further period of deliberation Jamie confirmed his decision to Shaun yesterday afternoon,” explains his father, Philip Derbyshire.

“Jamie and Spirit Motor Group have had a long and successful association with Balfe Motorsport and the Balfe family and we have some great memories to look back on as well as a substantial collection of national and international trophies,” continues Derbyshire Snr. “Jamie just felt that it was time to move on and seek a fresh challenge. We are all the very best of friends and I know that both Shaun and Jamie have both said they would like to race together again one day.

“Jamie is keen to land a competitive LMP2 drive when the right opportunity comes along. He had an excellent, if brief, LMP2 test with Courage late last year when he and Shaun ended with identical times at the Le Mans Bugatti Circuit.”

The Balfe Saleen wasn't due to race at the Spa 24 Hours: its next race will be the FIA GT event at Paul Ricard.
