No Bucharest - Hungaroring Instead
After all the problems with the Bucharest FIA GT fixture - originally
at the start of the season, then pencilled in for October - the
event has now been scrapped, to be replaced by a race at the Hungaroring
on October 1.
The SRO statement reads as follows:
SRO regrets to announce that the event promoters of the Bucharest
round of the FIA GT Championship have informed them that they have
been forced to cancel the scheduled event for the 2006 season. This
has occurred totally independently of FIA GT promoters SRO, which
had followed all the recognised procedures. The contract between
SRO and the Bucharest promoters had been signed, and a deposit both
agreed and received. The date was properly registered by the Romanian
Motorsport Federation with the FIA, and recently modified by them
further to the rescheduling of an important diplomatic conference.
SRO has made arrangements for a replacement event, which will take
place at the Hungaroring, in Budapest, on October 1st.
