Peter & Wendlinger For Austrian Aston
With one Aston Martin DBR9 victorious at Sao Paulo – the Cirtek Motorsports example - another one will join the FIA GT ranks in 2006. The Karner & Grossegger company, Austrian importers of the Aston Martin marque, has been working on this project for some time, and now it is official: a DBR9 will be entered in the 2006 championship, with drivers Philipp Peter and Karl Wendlinger. The technical side of this campaign will be handled by former Zakspeed team manager Andreas Hainke, who has been busy setting up his own operation over the winter.

Philipp Peter’s desire to share a competitive car with an equally competitive team-mate is well documented: he briefly parted ways with the JMB team late in the 2005 season over this issue. His JMB colleague, Karl Wendlinger, was of course in the hunt for the FIA GT title until the last race. Both were team-mates at Audi during their days in touring car racing, and have teamed up in endurance races on numerous occasions.

Aston Martin Austria’s Richard and Heinrich Karner have found a partner for this venture in Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer, majority owner of aircraft management and charter company, JetAlliance. Himself a racer, Lichtner-Hoyer shared a BMW M3 at the Dubai 24 hour race with, among others, Karl Wendlinger, who was brought in as a late replacement for Robert Lechner. Wendlinger is pictured with the Dunlop-shod car, below.
