Matt Harris Signs For Trackspeed
GT racing seems to appeal to all age groups (of drivers). With some of this year’s British GT pairings having a combined age of over 100, some of the others will be much younger.

Matt Harris, aged 19, comes to GT racing from a year in BRDC single seaters, two years in Formula BMW, plus some Formula Renault and Palmer Audi racing. The highlight of last year was a win in Formula BMW, but he’s turning his back on single seaters – partly because of the huge budgets required to step up to F3.

dailysportscar.comPiers Masarati has snapped him up to drive a Trackspeed Porsche in the GT Cup Class this year, having been very impressed with the youngster during a test at Snetterton in mid-January.

“We had an excellent test at Snetterton,” says Matt Harris. “I knew Piers anyway through instructing, and we get on really well. It took me ten laps to get used to how to drive a Porsche, but the car was fantastic.

“The track started out wet, and dried slowly during the day: I didn’t get a chance at the end when it was almost dry, but I left there feeling confident that we can go for the championship.”

Matt Harris’s partner is also expected to be a young man going places, so the older drivers had better look out for these two. Next Trackspeed test will be at Donington Park on Thursday.
