Morgan And Marcos Back For More in 2006
Keith Ahlers and Chris Beighton were both wandering the halls at
the NEC yesterday, and both were happy to confirm that they will
be back in the GT3 class of the British GT Championship for 2006
- in the Team Aero Morgan and Team Tiger Marcos respectively: a
welcome return for both of these V8-engined race winners.
Ahlers hopes to be joined by 2005 team mate Oliver
Bryant, but is waiting on a decision for the in-demand youngster,
whilst Beighton will be joined by long-time team mate Jon Finnemore
for “one more season before we go back to historics.”
“GT racing has been a fantastic experience
for us,” continued Beighton, “but we have no ambition
to do anything beyond British GTs. We’re making one or two
changes to the Marcos, mainly to make it more reliable.”
The British GT Championship needs the variety that
the Morgan and Marcos provide in GT3 (Cup), a class that was largely
Porsche (and Ferrari) dominated in 2005 – certainly in terms
of entry numbers, if not winners.
Noble, Lotus, Corvette, Prosport and Vauxhall entries
have all faded out of the scene in recent years.
