Here Comes The Robertson Racing Panoz
Martin Spetz made a timely trip to Sebring on the penultimate
day of 2006 – and gathered the information and photographs
regarding a very interesting ALMS story for 2007 and 2008.
“We
are still in the build stages of everything on our team,”
says the Robertson Racing website - http://robertsonrace.com/
- “from our brand new Panoz GT-LM to our team to our website.”
David and Andrea
Robertson (below, with Dick Barbour and Arie Luyendyk Jr.) are the
husband and wife team behind this silver machine (“the only
rookie grandparents they know”) and the car is being maintained
by Dick Barbour Racing out of Dick’s shop near Road Atlanta.
The Robertsons are from Ray, Michigan, about 45 minutes north of
Detroit.

Their plan is
to attend the ALMS Test Days, and race at Sebring, Detroit and Petit
Le Mans, to be followed by a full ALMS season in 2008. They’re
not worrying about (or actively looking for) a sponsor for Sebring,
but intend on having one for the other two races.
Arie
Luyendyk Jr. will be the third driver, and he’ll be bringing
his associate sponsors.
David Roberton is an Airbus pilot for Spirit Airline
and has raced in SCCA and in the Panoz series. Andrea used to be
a drag racer.
The silver Esperante
was delivered just before Christmas, and yesterday, December 30,
was its first run, on the short SCCA course: the Skip Barber school
had use of the other half of the track. More running was scheduled
for today, December 31, on the full course.
David and Andrea
Robertson were content to get some miles behind them in their new
car, and had none other than Terry Borcheller and David Murry present
as instructors. Murry is shown talking to Arie Luyendyk - on the
right and in the first images below. Below those two are David Robertson
and Dick Barbour - and then the whole group at Sebring yesterday:
Dick Barbour, David Murry, David Robertson, Arie Luyendyk, Andrea
Robertson and Terry Borcheller.
So it’s
a warm welcome to some new GT racers – and a warm welcome
back to Dick Barbour.
