Ralf For Rahal Porsche
The Rahal Lettermann Racing programme, with a Porsche 997 for the
2007 ALMS, was announced during the Laguna Seca meeting in October.
Bobby
Rahal remarked then that “we intend to be in sportscar racing
for many years. Our goal is to win the championship next year.”
With that
stated intention, Rahal has signed up Ralf Kelleners to lead the
driving squad.
“We need
to discuss ideas with (Porsche's) Uwe Brettel,” suggested
Bobby Rahal nearly two months ago.
And now Ralf Kelleners confirms that “Uwe
Brettel made the contact. I am glad to be coming back to the Porsche
family.”
Ralf Kelleners is currently in Bahrain, where he
is competing with Forest Barber and others in the Bahrain 24 Hours,
in a BMW M3.
“I had
to figure that there was no Ferrari family for me (next year),”
indicates Kelleners – which was a reference to a frustrating
2006 season, during which he rarely had a chance to show his form
in a Ferrari 430, although he almost led the Risi 430 to victory
first time out at Sebring, and was on pole at Petit Le Mans.
The Rahal Lettermann
Porsche is so far one of only two confirmed Porsche programmes in
GT2 of the ALMS – the other being Tafel Racing, which was
announced at Petit Le Mans. But there is plenty more GT2 news (and
ALMS news generally) to come.
Correction:
Flying Lizards also announced its intention to run Porsches 997s,
at Road Atlanta on September 29.
