High Noon (Soccer) Showdown for ALMS Drivers
The Annual Drivers versus The Rest football (soccer) game will be
played on Sunday (October 22) after the season ending ALMS race
at Laguna Seca – writes John Hindhaugh (exhibiting
dazzling control in the 2004 game, right).
All
concerned will be delighted to know that we have secured the use
of the School facilities close to the racetrack on the south side
of South Boundary Road. We played here a couple of years ago and
it is an excellent venue.
The surface is natural grass so please bring studs
- we only have the field for a couple of hours so arrive between
11.30 and 11.45 for a 12.00 midday kick-off. Many thanks to Gill
Campbell of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for help in organising the
match. Further details and directions will be available at Laguna
Seca.
All welcome - especially members of the press, officials
and teams. Somehow the drivers always seem to find a full squad!
I trust that you will spread the word to all who
can turn out. I must stress that this is a proper field not the
nightmare of rabbit holes we 'played' on last year.
There is room
for spectators so if you want to see your driving heroes in another
light feel free to come and join us. English drivers will hopefully
be displaying more talent on the field than that shown by the England
soccer team in its miserable performance against Croatia. And the
drivers are much more intelligent too!
