Luis Diaz Joins The Boss
Lowe’s Fernandez Racing announced today, September 30, at
Road Atlanta that Luis Diaz will be partnering Adrian Fernandez
as the team enters ALMS competition in 2007 - so a Mexican partnership
in the driving seat.
Luis Diaz - “It is a dream come true for me.
Adrian has been a hero for me since I started driving. He has opened
doors for drivers to compete outside of Mexico, and has been a role
model for all of us on the race track and off. The opportunity to
join him and two great companies in Lowe’s and Acura was,
for me, a once in a lifetime chance.”
“I’m really looking forward to sharing
the car with Luis”, said Adrian. “He stepped into my
car when I got injured in the Australian race. We tried to put together
a program a few years ago, so this has always been in the back of
our minds. With the great partners we have in Lowe’s and Acura,
adding Luis completes the extremely strong package we now have in
place to enter our first season in ALMS competition. He is a good
friend and I have a lot of respect for his talent and passion in
racing. I’m really excited for next season.”
Initial testing took place at Firebird Raceway,
located outside of Phoenix Arizona. “The testing could not
have gone more smoothly,” said Robert Clarke, President of
HPD. “I’m extremely pleased how the program is progressing.”
“It was a great test – unbelievable
to drive. The car is just beautiful. I get out of the car and just
look at it. I can’t believe I get to drive it.” Obviously
Adrian is excited to be in this car.
The team has a full slate of testing scheduled before
debuting at Sebring. Adrian Fernandez - “We are right on schedule.
When we entered the Grand Am last year, we only had a month and
a half to get ready, so this is much better. When we had the team
photo before taking the car out for the first time, I was so emotional.
I just didn’t want to stall it.”
“The grip level and the down force are so
good. We are early for the motor, but I know where we will be. Lola
gave us a great design. It’s really well balanced.”
“Coming into the ALMS fits with what we intended
to do with Acura and Lowe’s and at this stage in my racing
career, endurance racing really fits me personally.”
Announcements
concerning drivers for Andretti Green and Highcroft will be made
in the future.
