Mowlem
For Ferrari At Mosport
Johnny Mowlem returns to the ALMS this coming weekend, partnering
Stephane Ortelli in the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 430.
“It’s great to be back in the ALMS,”
says the former Saleen man, “I'm very flattered to be asked,
especially as Ferrari in Italy have such an influence in the driver
choice: I will be doing everything I can to help Risi get back on
track and win the race.”
He’s driven for Giuseppe Risi’s team
in the past, notably in the Daytona 24 Hours (second place overall
in 2003), and the team is keen to create “an upturn in performance”,
after a couple of disappointing performances, most recently at Road
America.
Stephane Ortelli certainly welcomes the partnership
with Johnny Mowlem.
“I think we’ll be a strong team,”
says the Frenchman, "and the Ferrari should be really strong
around Mosport, from what I’ve heard of the circuit. We're
testing on Tuesday, and it will be a help that Johnny knows the
track.”
Mowlem and Terry Borcheller finished a highly competitive
third in the ACEMCO Saleen last year, having led the factory Corvettes
for virtually the entire race, with first Terry and then Johnny
never more than 6 or 7 seconds ahead, up until losing out on in
the pits during the final round of pitstops, with just minutes remaining.
"Last year Mosport was probably our strongest
race, and I'm hoping I can continue in that vein and have a strong
race this year also," said the Englishman. "Obviously
I'm still in the Autosport Designs Racing Aston Martin in the Speed
World GTs, so it will be a busy weekend, but I'm looking forward
to it!"
Pit lane rumour has it that Mowlem also has some
potentially exciting plans for the remaining ALMS races, so for
now he is committed to running the Ferrari just for the Mosport
race.
