Binnie Lola’s Third Test
At Road Atlanta (February 13 – 16)

”I was over the moon with the performance of the engine, and I can't wait for Bill (Binnie) to drive it,” said Sam Hancock last month, after the Binnie Motorsports Lola Zytek’s first shakedown, at Snetterton.

The team has moved to North America now, and spent three days at Road Atlanta last week. Top of the agenda were comparisons between different tyre manufacturers and durability testing of the Lola-Zytek combination.

With a total of (a remarkable) 468 laps covered over the three days (more than a PLM race distance – 394 laps), the Lola B05/40 proved itself to be very reliable, while on the tyre front, the decision has been made: the car will run on Michelins this year.

“We are hopeful that this race car will deliver on race day and we look forward to Sebring,” commented Bill Binnie. “The new Zytek engine seems great and the Michelins are going to help us remain competitive in the face of the new competition in our class. It has been a busy winter for our team. We have re-engined our Lola and completed our new 20,000 square foot state-of–the-art race shop and we moved our program forward a lot and we are ready for the new season.”

All those laps were completed despite a late start to two of the three days, owing to record low temperatures in the Atlanta area. Allen Timpany was among the drivers, alongside the team owner.

The team is now back at its New Hampshire base, preparing the car for the 12 Hours of Sebring.

This is the car at its second test – at Snetterton last month (Sam Hancock driving).
