Champion Testing At Sebring This Week
Champion Racing began a two day test at Sebring (yesterday, Wednesday)
and Barry Foster, from the local News-Sun, popped
along to bring us up to date.
Champion is working with
Michelin, sorting out a selection of compounds in an attempt to
arrive at a reasonable number for use next year, to comply with
2005 ALMS tire rules.
Lehto was the only driver present, but he was trying both chassis,
#505 and #605 -- or #2 and #1 from the last two ALMS events of this
The only incident to
report on the first day of testing was that there was "something
strange" in the feel of the newer car during the morning runs,
so they changed the rear end.
No lap times to report,
they were doing five lap stints, then looking at the tyres.
The weather was perfect
- sunny and mild, a few clouds, and a high near 80 degrees.
There was a hint that
the team might have a third car at the late-January, ALMS test session….
