Jeannette & Franchitti In The Panoz Esperante
David Saelens will not be driving the Panoz Motor Sports Esperante at the last two ALMS events, but taking his place at Road Atlanta should be Marino Franchitti.

The Scot will try the car the first time in a Road Atlanta test session later this week. A third driver, to join Franchitti and Gunnar Jeannette for Petit Le Mans, has yet to be named.

“Having Marino help out for Petit will be a great addition to the team,” said Panoz Team General Manager Ed Triolo. “He came second in a Porsche this summer in the LMES race at Nurburgring and earlier this year captured the P2 Pole at Sebring. His Viper experience in the 2002 ALMS will also serve us well. We’re excited to put him in the Panoz Esperante for Petit Le Mans.”

dailysportscar.comFranchitti was expecting a season in a Rand Racing Lola, but when that project came to an end after Sebring, he was left without a drive.

During the pause in the season before Petit Le Mans, the Panoz Motor Sports team has been working on improving the environment for the drivers, and solutions have been found after spending time in the wind tunnel at Langley Air Force Base. The aim is to have a Porsche-beater available for 2005.
