Herbert & Kaffer In Second Champion Audi
The Petit Le Mans entry list is gradually coming together: now we have the addition of the second Champion Audi R8, to be driven by Johnny Herbert and Pierre Kaffer, at both Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca.

This is the R8 that has tested on several occasions this year (at Road America, below), but hasn’t raced since the Le Mans 24 Hours in June. Herbert and Kaffer are normally Audi Sport UK / Team Veloqx ‘rivals’ in the LMES, but they’ll be driving together in North America.

dailysportscar.comHerbert was a race winner for Champion at Road Atlanta last October (with JJ Lehto, right) while Kaffer tested extensively at the track for the British Audi team earlier this year, before going on to win his first race in an R8, the Sebring 12 Hours.

“We are very happy to announce Johnny Herbert and Pierre Kaffer as the drivers for our second ADT Champion Racing Audi R8 car,” said Team Owner Dave Maraj. “We look forward to Johnny driving for Champion again. He was a huge asset during the three years he drove for us. Pierre Kaffer is definitely an up and coming driver who has already proven himself at Le Mans and in the Le Mans Endurance Series. He’ll make a perfect addition to our team.”

dailysportscar.com“This is going to be a great challenge,” said Herbert, “the Audi R8 has won six of the ALMS races this year and having been given the opportunity to win Petit Le Mans again I intend to do just that. I am also looking forward to finishing the series on a high note at Laguna Seca.”

“I especially like the first part of the (Road Atlanta) track, Turn 1 and the Esses,” said the young German (left). “You really need a big heart for this track!”

We’re expecting a total Petit Le Mans entry of over 30 cars. Johnny Herbert will be driving a Maserati MC12 this weekend, in the FIA Championship, at Imola, before concluding the LMES season at Spa a week later.
