Pirelli Tyre Testing At Portland
"We'll definitely need some more time, but we're improving," ACEMCO team owner Jeff Giangrande remarked yesterday (Tuesday), after the second of two days Pirelli tyre testing at Portland.

dailysportscar.comACEMCO was sharing the track with Risi Competizione and its Ferrari, both teams having both drivers present – Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem in the Saleen, Anthony Lazzaro and Ralf Kelleners in the Ferrari.

ACEMCO was getting through a large range of tyres (writes Gary Horrocks), Johnny Mowlem trying about eight different sets yesterday afternoon, before Terry Borcheller went for a longer run. The Saleen was performing impeccably and times were significantly quicker (as you would expect) compared to the last time a Saleen raced here – in 2001, when Terry Borcheller was at the wheel of the Konrad version.

"Portland is one of the best places to test because you always struggle for grip here," elaborated Borcheller. "You can gather data here that helps in a lot of areas."

The Risi Ferrari had a minor clutch bother, but otherwise was getting through the miles and the tyres.

More from Gary Horrocks later.
