Rand Racing Ceases Activities
Blam To The Lizards

The sad news reaches this desk that “Rand Racing is not a functioning team at this time. There are presently no plans for further racing” – this from (former) Rand PR man David Seibert.

Marino Franchitti (and presumably the other drivers) were aware of the disbandment of the team at the end of April, but at least top strategist Thomas Blam (remember Marino singing his praises?) has a new role, with Flying Lizard Motorsports.

Blam will work with the Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3-RSR cars: car 45, driven by Johannes van Overbeek and Darren Law - currently fourth in the ALMS GT Drivers Championship - and car 44, driven by Lonnie Pechnik and Seth Neiman.

"I am excited about joining the Flying Lizard team,” said Blam. “I have been impressed by their attention to detail, competitiveness, and intensity. Combine that with the right technology, preparation and strategy, and we will have a solid base for building a winning team."

"Thomas' proven experience as a creative racing strategist will be just one of his important contributions to our team,” explained team principal Seth Neiman. “I first worked with him at my first Pro race at Watkins Glen last year. His decisions created the late race opportunities that led to our victory in the GT class and our finish of third place overall. Thomas also played a key role in Flying Lizard's podium finish at Daytona and competitive showing at Sebring this March."

Rand Racing had a very disappointing Sebring (by its standards), although the #7 Lola finished a distant second in class.
