Grand Am - Miami Grand Prix - Friday Morning

Only twenty-four cars braved the misty rain and wet track to participate in the first morning practice. Most teams chose to sit it out and not take the chance. The times posted were essentially irrelevant as the quickest was over nine seconds slower than ysterday. With the weather forecast calling for sunny skies and warmer temperatures for the race, not much can be learned from practising in these conditions.

dailysportscar.comTo better accommodate the Indy Racing League, who need a dry oval to practice, the second Grand Am practice was moved up fromm1:00 pm to 11:30 am. This would give the track crews more time to dry the oval sections, as the rain seems to have ended.

Many cars started the session on intermediates but quickly came in for slicks as the track was improving. Most teams used the session to fine-tune their cars and drivers for qualifying.

Again a change in schedule as qualifying is now set to begin at 1:00 pm in lieu of 4:00pm.

The sky is lightening and it looks good for qualifying. Max Crawford and Andy Wallace, above - always looking to adapt or improve some aspect of the car..

Notes and quotes from around the paddock to follow the qualifying report.
