Just a quick rundown of events for now: full reports
in due course.
Shaun Balfe looked very dominant in the opening
phase of the GTO race, pulling away strongly from…Steven Brady
in the Ultima and Shane Lynch in the Eclipse TVR. The Irishman eventually
found a way round the quick Ultima, by which time Balfe was seventeen
seconds up the road. Tom Herridge was 20 seconds behind the leader
at this point, and pitted at 20 minutes.
A lightning stop for the red and white Mosler meant
an even bigger margin when Jamie Derbyshire eventually took over,
but he was almost immediately in trouble with a difficult downshift.
That set up a great chase from Piers Johnson, with the TVR looking
favourite to pass the Mosler before the 60 minutes were up. But
the Mosler then had a throttle cable breakage, and pulled off at
Old Hall.
Piers Johnson kept piling it on, and Martin Short
knew he couldn’t pull back over 20 seconds, and so settled
for second place. The Ultima deserved third, but was hampered by
a loose wheel, which then came loose again under Aaron Scott, causing
the car’s retirement. Brady and Scott put on a very impressive
performance all weekend.
A dominant Cup Class win (and fourth position overall!)
from the Patrick Pearce / Matt Griffin #76 GruppeM Tech 9 Porsche
gives the young pair a dominant lead in the championship.
Neil Cunningham combined well with new co-driver
Adam Sharpe to secure a distant but solid second place in the #66
Richard Thorne Motorsport Morgan Aero 8, with Hector Lester and
Ivor Mairs next up in the #42 Glenvarigill Ferrari 360.
Behind these there was a real battle royal with
up to six cars duelling hard for class position at times. The GulfAir
Golf came home at the head of this group.
