Action!

The Krohn Racing/TRG cars saw more action than the team wanted in the Rolex Sports Car Series race at California Speedway on April 3. Jörg Bergmeister led the first part of the race, but a hard hit to the No. 66 Pontiac-powered Riley Mk XI left him and his co-driver, Christian Fittipaldi, struggling for a top-10 finish. Their teammates Nic Jönsson and Tracy Krohn were also hurt by contact with other cars, but were able to finish fifth in the No. 67 Pontiac-Riley.

Jörg Bergmeister, No. 66:
"We had a really, really good car in the beginning with stickers [new tires] on the car; we were the fastest by quite a bit. I had to slow down because there was a car ahead of me braking really hard. Then someone hit me and crashed hard into the rear. Something on the suspension broke and we also had tire damage. I'm very disappointed."

Christian Fittipaldi, No. 66:
"The team did an awesome job. Everyone worked really well, on top of the game, especially considering that this team only has three races with this type of car. Unfortunately, Jörg was punted out and had a flat tire and we went a lap down. I got the lap back, but there was no time left for us to go a little more forward. But we definitely had a winning car today."

Nic Jönsson, No. 67:
"It was pretty eventful. As soon as I got in the car, I got hit by a BMW GT car and it turned me around. That put me all the way back to the end of the pack, so I started charging from there. I got hit again, by one of the Porsches. It broke the rear spoiler and the brakes started getting a little worse. I had to just settle in and make sure we made it to the end."

Tracy Krohn, No. 67:
"The car was extremely good. Nic had a little bad luck in getting involved with some other traffic and that messed up the spoiler. Otherwise, I think we would have been very close to a podium. I was able to keep up with traffic today and the car was very solid through all the high-speed turns, though we need some work on the lower-speed stuff. It was a good day."

Repeat Podium

TRG drivers Marc Bunting and Andy Lally strengthened their lead in Rolex Sports Car Series GT championship standings with their second-consecutive podium of the season, their 13th podium in the last 15 race starts together. They had a clean, strategic run in the No. 65 Auto Gallery/TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to finish second in the GT class in the Rolex Series race at California Speedway. Their teammates Colin Braun and Brad Coleman weren't as fortunate in the No. 64 Team16 Porsche. After racing as high as fourth in GT, a problematic pit stop cost them a lap and left them 13th at the finish.

dailysportscar.comColin Braun, Team16/TRG No. 64:
"Brad did a great job starting the race for us. He put us in fourth position, but we had an unfortunate pit stop that set us back a lap."

Brad Coleman, Team16/TRG No. 64:
"We drove our best and were in position to finish in the top-five when we faced a bad pit stop, followed by some back luck and yellow [caution] flags."

Marc Bunting, Auto Gallery/TRG No. 65:
"It was a good race. We qualified further back than we would have liked – the BMWs were awful fast. But we were fortunate to end up second, so it turned out great for us. We'd like to be one higher on the podium, but we continued our streak of podium finishes."

Andy Lally, Auto Gallery/TRG No. 65:
"It was quite eventful in the beginning when I was battling with some of the Beemers [BMWs]. At the end, it was just head down trying to catch them, but that's utterly impossible – those things were flying. But we finished P2 and we opened up our lead in the points."
