PK Sport
At Sebring – Wednesday Testing Report
It has been a day of mixed fortunes for the PK Sport Porsches at
a scorching Sebring International Raceway.

This morning’s
practice session, the first, official, timed running of the week,
saw Robin Liddell working hard on finding a good race set-up in
the #60 car at this most demanding of circuits.

“It’s as
bumpy as ever here. Finding the right set-up is absolutely crucial
and it can take quite some time.” The flying Scotsman has
had the bulk of the time in #60, using his experience of the car
and the Sebring circuit to give team mates Hugh Plumb and Peter
Boss the best possible car to try to improve on the team’s
2002 third place, in this even more hotly contested GT class.
Hugh Plumb, waiting patiently
for an opportunity to get behind the wheel of the #60 car, was bubbling
with enthusiasm for the team and the event:
“I’m
really excited to be with PK Sport and Pirelli. The team has done
very well in the past here and I hope we can show that form again
this year.”

The #61 car meanwhile
had a very trying morning. After four installation laps from ex
Formula One ace Alex Caffi, David Warnock took to the circuit, only
to suffer an engine failure on his out-lap.
“It was just one
of those things.”
The PK crew
set to work immediately and a fresh flat 6 was installed in #61
in good time for the afternoon practice session.

Warnock took to the track
again this afternoon, and this time it was better news:
“I did a few recce
laps, dialling myself back into the car and the track and got down
to a nice string of 2:12s, just getting comfortable. This track
is a real eye opener, very quick and punishing on the car and the
driver. Le Mans is a breeze compared to this place!”
New
PK driver, Tracy Krohn, fresh from a second place in the Panoz Pro
Series last year, was looking forward to his first start in the
12 Hours of Sebring:
“I was
happy to get some time in the car this afternoon and I’m feeling
great despite the heat and the track. You really feel every bump
and thump on this track. The key thing is how well I’ll feel
after we’ve raced hard for 12 hours here though!”
Another hot
and sunny day is promised for tomorrow’s qualifying session.
It should be a challenge in this company, but let’s see what
Robin Liddell and Alex Caffi can do, when they're really wound up!
